The Garden and Terrace are fully kitted out with tables and chairs, and with ashtrays for the Velvet-Club members and guests that wish to enjoy a cigarette with their drinks in comfort !! A Special Supper Menu will be available to those Velvet-Club members and guests that wish to dine. .

Her mother was an English woman Elizabeth Chappell, her father, Wald Barnes, an unsuccessful writer, dilettante artist and polygamist, whose wife, mistress and their children all lived in the same household, supported by his indulgent and equally free-thinking mother Zadel. Her childhood was greatly influenced by her grandmother, who was also a journalist.

Bertha Harris regarded Djuna Barnes's work as "practically the only available expression of lesbian culture we have in the modern western world" since Sappho and her greatest achievement was probably 'Nightwood' (1936)

Last year's Awards night was a fantastic evening, hosted by Sir Ian McKellen and attended by Sarah Waters (who collected the Writer of the Year award). Also in attendance were actors Leonora Crichlow and Olivia Hallinan (stars of Sugar Rush 2 and winners of Broadcast of the Year Award) and entertainer and broadcaster Amy Lamé.
