We will have exclusive use of the St Stephens Club on Friday2nd September from 7-12pm and by special arrangement, Velvet members and guests can continue the evening on by collecting one of the 50 Guest Passes for yourself and your guests for complimentary admission to Shadow Lounge, 5 Brewer Street, Soho, London W1 (11pm-4am) Europe’s No: 1 gay members club.

Club drinks are: Wine: £4.50 per glass, £15.50 per bottle, Beer: £3.50, Spirits: single £3.50 (inclusive of mixer), Soft drinks: £2.25, Bottled Water: £1.00 glass.

Renowned for the quality of its food, Head Chef Alex Wood has created a selection of dishes for members and guests including: Bruschetta with tomato, mozzarella and basil £9.00 … Foie gras parfait and orange marmalade on brioche £10.50 (starter) … Penne Pasta with either a wild mushroom or carbonnara sauce £9.00/£12.00 (starter/main) ... Alexandra Parks: Lesbian Icon: Who? When? Where?

Alex was born to Stephen and Janie Parks, and brought up in the tiny village of Mount Hawke. She has two brothers. She might never have been born at all, had it not been for her mother's brave decision to go ahead with her pregnancy despite contracting Rubella, and being warned that Alex might be born with disabilities. Nevertheless, all went well, and she had a largely happy and ordinary childhood.

Parks attended the local village school, and later the Richard Landers School in Truro, where she decided on a career in teaching art. When it came to choosing her A-Levels, however, her plans changed dramatically. She instead chose to do Theatre Studies at The Hub college in St Austell, where she learnt dance, theory, acrobatics and clowning.

During her GCSE years, Parks was the lead singer in a local folk band, One Trick Pony, who played in local pubs. This was her first real experience of performance and music, and began to hone her song writing skills with the help of one of the band members: "Dave from One Trick Pony introduced me to folk music and taught me a few chords on the guitar. He got me to sing basically. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be singing. He introduced me to Joni Mitchell, Ani Di Franco, Michelle Branch, loads of stuff that I hadn't heard before that was really nice and we used to do just covers of that and then we started writing together." ...more...
